Heather McCoubrey is a native of Maine but having moved all over the U.S. as a child, she doesn’t sound like one. She’s been writing since middle school when a teacher taught her she could create her own stories instead of just reading them. That year she had some of her first poems published in the school magazine and from there she graduated to writing a full-length novel in high school.
She is the self-published author of To Love Twice and Back to December. Her third novel, Emily’s Choice, was released on March 8, 2016.
Heather resides in Pennsylvania with her husband, three children, Rex the chihuahua, Killer the outside cat, and Fatty the goldfish. When she’s not being super-mom and wife, she ekes out time to write, watch football, practice her British accent and dream of living on an island where it’s eighty degrees year-round.
Meet the Author: Heather McCoubrey
Where were you born?
Calais, Maine, USA
What is your favorite color?
What is your favorite movie?
I can't answer with just one! How about one from each category? What About Bob? for Comedy; Pretty Woman for Romance; Love Actually for Drama
If you could go anywhere, where would it be & why?
I think I would go to Alaska. I haven't been there yet and I hear it's just amazing. I think I'd like to take a cruise up there and spend at least a month so that I could see and do as much as possible. I'd love to spend some time there in both the summer and winter so I could get a taste of both extremes.
Favorite childhood memory?
The day I broke my arm. It was the day before I started 7th grade, in a new school, where several elementary schools came together for the Middle and High schools. My dad had taken me and my siblings for a walk/bike ride and I had a 10-speed bicycle. We walked our bikes through a construction site and my dad insisted I walk my bike because the terrain was too rocky to ride through. I did as asked until we were finished and when there was just a slight hill leading out, I got on my bike and immediately lost my balance. I broke my arm and spent the next 9 hours at the hospital (it was Labor Day weekend, lots of people had had accidents apparently!). When we got home from the hospital, my best friend was sitting on the front steps waiting and kept me laughing (despite how much it hurt my arm) for the rest of the evening.
Coffee or tea?
Chai tea - iced, frozen or hot!
Favorite adult beverage?
Love Potion (Malibu rum, Peach Schnapps & Cranberry juice)
Favorite novel character you've created?
It's a toss-up between Edward Kent, the dashing movie star from TO LOVE TWICE and Anna Blackhurst, my very damaged heroine from BACK TO DECEMBER.
Favorite novel character someone else has created?
Oooh, this is a hard one. I love the Anita Blake characters by Laurell K. Hamilton, and I love the Harry Potter characters by J.K. Rowling. I'm also a fan of the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.
Dog or Cat?
Cat! But the hubs is allergic, so we compromised and have an outside cat.
Do you listen to music while writing?
Sometimes. It all depends on my mood, the scene I'm trying to create and the character's needs at the moment.
Early bird or Night owl?
Definitely a Night Owl...
Roses - my favorite are the lavender ones!
Do you outline your novels before you start to write?
Not so much. I have an idea in my head of the basic story - but I don't write down pages of plot, characterizations or dialogue.
How many hours do you write every day?
I don't have a set number of hours or even words...but I plan to change that in the new year. I'd love to write 2500 words/day and have a novel written every quarter!
Is novel writing all you do?
No. I write short stories, children's books, book reviews and blog posts.
