The Jealousy Game by Tracy Krimmer

Summer vacations typically mean a break from school, time to relax and have fun. That’s exactly what Melissa Bailey was looking forward to during her last summer vacation as a high school student.

When her best friend and neighbor, John Morris, sets her up with his friend, she is not sure what to expect. After John’s girlfriend confronts Melissa about romantic feelings she is hiding for John, strange things start to happen. Melissa must try and manage her feelings; meanwhile her parent’s marriage is falling apart. Her summer vacation becomes a nightmare when she is abducted and a game of jealousy unfolds.

This book surprised me. I have to admit that I didn't really read the blurb, which is why it surprised me. I went into this book thinking it was a young adult romance, when in fact, it was so much more!

I enjoyed getting to know Melissa and it was a pleasurable journey to watch her blossom and break free of her shell. Granted the events that led up to her freedom weren't the best, but I believe if they hadn't have happened - she'd still be trapped. Melissa is quiet. She's not a part of the in-crowd. She's self-conscious and unsure of herself.

John is outgoing. He's firmly entrenched in the "in-crowd". He is anything but self-conscious or unsure. He's everything Melissa isn't, he's her complete opposite. But they have a strong friendship, one they both stand up for with their friends. Probably the only thing Melissa is sure of are her feelings for John, even though she knows there's no way he'd ever contemplate dating her.

Until the strange things start to happen. And once Melissa's life is on the line, John suddenly realizes how much she means to him - and how much time he's wasted by not seeing what was right in front of his nose.

I enjoyed this book and I think the Romantic Suspense genre has received a new gem. I look forward to more from Ms. Krimmer!!
